Anna Marie Mahan, age 82, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died Sunday, January 24, 2021. She was born July 17, 1938, in Little Italy, Arkansas, to her late parents James Doyle and Antonetta Maria (Toni) Belotti Mahan.
Anna grew up in Little Rock, where she attended Our Lady of the Holy Souls School and graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy in 1956. During high school, she developed a passion for science, which led her to pursue an education in nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital School for Nurses in Hot Springs. She continued her studies at St. John’s Hospital School of Anesthesiology in Springfield, Ill., where she became a nurse anesthetist. Her career took her to several places, including San Diego, Calif., and Tampa, Fla., before she returned to Little Rock. She retired after 20 years of service at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital.
Throughout her life, Anna enjoyed traveling both abroad and within the United States. In particular, she enjoyed seeing the mountains of Europe and the American West, walking on the beach and watching pelicans near the ocean, and visiting friends and family.
In her free time, she liked to keep up with her extended family, particularly her five nieces, two nephews, seven grandnieces, and nine grandnephews. She always wanted to visit in person or by phone and hear about their latest adventures.
Survivors include her three younger brothers, Joe Mahan (Diane) of Paris, Tenn., Jim Mahan (Marsha) of Little Rock, Ark., and Larry Mahan (Pat) of Springville, Tenn.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the cemetery in Little Italy. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Little Italy.
Her family would also like to thank her caregivers, especially Marilyn Gibson, who brought her comfort during the last month.
