Franklin D Vinson, 87, of McRae, joined his wife in their eternal home September 5, 2020. He was born November 12, 1932 at London, Arkansas to the late Sidney and Ruth Whorton Vinson.
Mr. Vinson graduated from Central High School in Little Rock and furthered his education at what is now UALR. Frank served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked in mechanical maintenance for Kellwood at Little Rock and Land of Frost at Searcy. Frank was a man of great faith and had a servant’s heart. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Searcy, serving diligently as a deacon. He was a kind, gentle and loving father who enjoyed each moment spent with his family. Frank also volunteered at Unity Hospital at Searcy. He will be remembered by his family as the man who gave the traditional first haircut to each grandchild, who pulled them on little red wagon rides, and his amazing desserts. “Making Waffles with Frank” day will be missed by the residents of Providence Assisted Living. He will also be remembered for his wood working skills. He enjoyed building birdhouses and feeders; giving them as gifts to the people around him. He wouldn’t hear of accepting money for such a gift. Frank’s last years were shared through the love and stories his children shared with not only their family but also their friends. Mr. and Mrs. Vinson were the perfect example of love and commitment; choosing to support those around them through even the most difficult times.
Along with his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Anita Vinson; son, Frank “Lynn” Vinson, Jr; and ten brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his son, Paul Vinson (Joan) of San Antonio; daughter, Sheila Vinson Lang (Steve) of Judsonia; brother, Paul Vinson (Charlene) of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Chris Vinson (Janelle), Kent Vinson (Dina), Devan Shaw (Brandon), Darci Wilson (Daniel), Sara Vinson Medley, Daniel Vinson (Brooke), Nathan Lang-Raad (Herbie), and Derek Lang (Emily); 17 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family will host a Memorial Service 2:00 p.m. October, 17, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Searcy. They welcome everyone to come and celebrate Mr. Franklin Vinson's life with them.
