James Ronald Putney, 82, of Ozark, Arkansas went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 16, 2020 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born March 3, 1938 Springfield, Missouri to Clyde and Sibyle Byerley Putney. He was a manager at Pester Derby in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, owned the B&B Country Store north of Ozark, drove a school bus for Ozark Public Schools, and retired from Cass Job Corps, Treasurer for the Barnes Mt. RFD, was veteran of the United States Navy and Marines; and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty Wolfe.
He is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Cheryl Pederson Putney of Ozark; two daughters, Carlyn Elder and husband Mike and Ronda Putney and companion William Mayner all of Ozark; a son, Norman Putney and wife Teresa of LeMesa, California; four sisters, Sonja Ball of Kansas, Mona Martin, Yvonne Putney, and Nancy Bailey all of Missouri; two brothers, Everett and Bob Putney both of Missouri; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Open visitation will be from 12:00PM until 9:00PM Thursday, June 18th at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 West Commercial St. in Ozark. Graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, June 19, 2020 at Gar Creek Cemetery with Brother C.E. Simpson officiating under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Serving as Pallbearers are Mickey Martin, Lonnie Mefford, Lionel Elder, Larry Elder, Mike Turner, Rusty Barnett, David Bowels, and A.J. Martin. Honorary Pallbearers are Chris Barr, Ryan and Brandon Elder, Ike Tate, and William Mayner.
