OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Robert R. McConahay, 82, died April 5, 2002, in Oklahoma City. He was born May 9, 1919, in Verndale, Minn. He moved to Oklahoma City in November from Bella Vista, where he and his wife retired after leaving Perry, Iowa. He attended school in Milwaukee, Wisc., and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in electrical engineering. He served in Germany, France and Belgium in World War II with the 547th AAA(AW) Railroad Battalion. He was employed for 42 years with the Milwaukee Road Department, serving in many positions of the Signal and Communications Department retiring as a supervisor. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Perry and was one of five men who initiated the building of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Perry. He was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church in Bella Vista, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Slawson McConahay; one son, Patrick McConahay of Astoria, Ore.; one daughter, Elizabeth McConahay Borden of Moscow, Idaho; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made the American Heart Association or Rowley Memorial Masonic Home of Perry, Iowa. Arrangements are by Smith & Kernke Funeral Directors in Oklahoma City.
