BELLA VISTA — Don Elwin Slade died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark. He was born Sept. 17, 1933, to Edward and Eleanor Slade in Stafford, Kan.

Don grew up in Stafford, Kan., where he graduated from high school. He earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from Kansas State University and went on to serve as an officer in the Army.

Don was married to his wife, Lois Sarver Slade, for 61 years. They raised their family in Pratt, Kan. He farmed on the family homestead in Stafford County, Kan. Don and his wife retired to Bella Vista, Ark, 30 years ago. He was a charter member of Highland Christian Church, and was an active member of the Kansas Sunflower Club. He was a commander of the American Legion in Bella Vista.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eleanor, brothers Byron and Bernard Slade and sister Phyllis Slade McClure.

He is survived by wife Lois; son Darryl Slade (Brenda) of Columbia, Mo.; daughters Marilyn Slade Sambevski (Michael) of Shawnee, Kan., and Donna Slade Gowdy (Lynn) of Bentonville, Ark.; sister Barbara Slade Baar; grandchildren Ryan and Justin Slade, Alexander Sambevski, Stacey Chenoweth, Sarah Herford and Stephanie Gowdy; great-grandchildren Margaret Chenoweth and Henry Herford.

A memorial service will be held Saturday Jan. 4 at Highland Christian Church, Bella Vista, Ark., at 11 a.m. Memorials can be sent to Highland Christian Church, Bella Vista, Ark. Arrangements by Epting Funeral Home of Bella Vista. Condolences: www.eptingfuneralhome.webs.com.
