BELLA VISTA — Dale R. Sterner, 81, of Bella Vista died Aug. 21, 2002, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born Jan. 13, 1921, in Page, Neb., to Charles and Gladys Sterner. He moved to Bella Vista 21 years ago. He was a railroad conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad and was a field supervisor for the United Transportation Union for 17 years. He was a crew chief on a B-17 in the Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Bentonville Masonic Lodge 56 and the Nomad Shrine. He enjoyed golf and traveling. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher Dale Schaumburg.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Sterner, to whom he was married 60 years; one daughter, Nancy Schaumburg and husband Glenn of Norman, Okla.; one son, Larry Sterner and wife Wanda of Longmont, Colo.; five grandchildren; one sister, Donna Weatherly of Lincoln, Neb.; one brother, Charles Sterner of California; five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista.

Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Nomad Shrine Transportation or First United Methodist Church Endowment, Bella Vista.
