BELLA VISTA — Paul Sullins, 95, of Bella Vista died April 21, 2008, at Highlands Health Care in Bella Vista. He was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Fayetteville to George "Tom" Thomas and Cynthia Lavina "Viney" Neal Sullins.

He was secretary and general counsel for the Crossett Co. in Crossett until July 1962, and served in a similar capacity with Georgia Pacific Crossett Division. He was past director and officer of Tri-State Mill Supply Co., the AD&N Railway Co., the Public Utilities Co., all in Crossett, and the First State Bank in Crossett.

He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas School of Law. He was a member and former officer of the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees from 1952 to 1963, appointed by Gov. Frances Cherry, and was past president of the University of Arkansas Alumni Association. He was a member of both the Arkansas Bar Association and the American Bar Association and the Garland County Bar Association as well as the Arkansas Bar Association. He was past president of the Arkansas Junior Bar Association and past chairman of the Executive Committee of the Junior Bar. He was appointed by Gov. David Pryor as a special associate justice, Arkansas Supreme Court, in 1977.

He was past president and 30-year member of the Crossett Rotary Club and past chairman and 25-year member of the Board of Directors of the Crossett Public Library, later named the Paul Sullins Library in his honor. He was also past member of the Arkansas Library Commission, past member of the Arkansas Environmental Preservation Commission, now the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Heritage Commission, appointed by then-Gov. Dale Bumpers. He was former president of the Ouachita River Valley Association. He was past chairman of the Ashley District Boy Scouts of America and past vice president of the Desoto Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Crossett First Methodist Church for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Crane Naylor Sullins of the home; two sons, John Paul Sullins and wife Joyce of Bella Vista, Thomas Neal Sullins and wife Nancy of Seattle; a daughter, Jane Olson and husband John of Manchester, Mass.; two sisters, Ann Bolain of Rogers, Wanda Jens of Phillips, Wis.; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be later. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church in Crossett, the Crossett Public Library, the University of Arkansas Foundation, Fayetteville, or Bella Vista Presbyterian Church.
