Elven Hugh 'Buck' Watson passed from this life at his home in San Pablo, California Friday, February 17, 2006. Buck was born in Center Hill, Arkansas on September 3, 1920, the son of Arcola Gertrude and Joseph Colwell Watson. He grew up helping on the family farm in Center Hill and attending the near by school in Floyd where he played basketball. He loved basketball which was the source of many good stories and memories which he was always happy to share. He later enlisted in the Army, fought in the Philippines, was a rifle marksman and served as the company cook before being honorably discharged as sergeant. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars, and also the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two Bronze Stars. Buck is survived by his partner Mayola Jones, his three daughters: Brenda and her husband Ron Johnson of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Linda and her husband George Gleason of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Donna Armstrong of Royal, Arkansas, and their families which include seven grandchildren: Christie VerBrugge, Dustin Johnson, Amy McDuffie, Eric Merriman, George Gleason, III, Peter Gleason, and Angie Shearin, and four great grandchildren: Zachary VerBrugge, Victoria McDuffie, Hayden Merriman, and Jerica Shearin. Buck, being one of 10 siblings, is also survived by many other family members and has been preceded in death by many family members; including a grandson Glen Armstrong. He was loved and will by missed by all. He had no enemies for he truly was a good and gentle man. Per Buck's request, a visitation will be held back home in Searcy, Arkansas at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home, Saturday, February 25, 2006 from 1:30-2:30 p.m., followed by a graveside funeral service at 3:30 p.m. to lay him to rest truly back home in Center Hill at the Harmony Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Buck would appreciate contributions to the Harmony Cemetery Fund to be sent to: Harmony Cemetery, Box 438, Hwy 305 South; Searcy, AR 72143.
