James L. Weatherby, Sr., known by many as Jim, a former thirty-three year resident of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away on December 18, 2009, in Austin, TX, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Dallas, TX, on December 27, 1914, to E.P. and Sara Weatherby. He had a brother and a sister, Edward Pace Jr. and Carolyn Muilman who both preceded him in death.

James graduated from Oak Cliff High School in Dallas in 1931. He attended Texas A&M College and the University of Missouri. After graduation he went to work for the Texas and Pacific Railroad in Dallas. He worked for the "T&P" or its successors for 43 years, moving to St. Louis in 1962, to finish his railroad career with the Missouri Pacific and the Union Pacific.

He retired to Bella Vista in May of 1978. In the fall of 1936, he married Eloise Herring of Dallas. They were married for over sixty-five years and had two children, Gail Allen of Houston and James L. Weatherby, Jr. of Austin. In addition to his daughter and son, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive him.

In April 1943, he entered the United States Army as a Lieutenant to serve in WWII. He served in the India and Burma Theater as part of the 478th Railroad Operating Battalion. He was honorably discharged in February 1946, as a Captain.

While in St. Louis and Bella Vista he taught children's Sunday School; was an active Bible scholar, and to the joy and benefit of his extended family developed skill and productivity in woodworking and furniture building.

The family wishes to thank the staff and Caregivers at The Summit at Northwest Hills and Oddessy Hospice for all the loving care James received over the last year.

A memorial service of life and resurrection will be held in Austin, TX, at 2:00 p.m. on December 27, 2009, which would have been his 95th birthday, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Dr. Interment will be in Bella Vista Gardens, Bella Vista, AR, beside his beloved Eloise, at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
