Colonel William Albert Cook born December 15, 1929 passed away peacefully at his home on September 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and William (Dub) Bronson Cook of Searcy, wife Thelma Rushin-Cook of Searcy, and a grandson Glen Armstrong of Beebe.

He is survived by his sister Beth Spangler of Conway, his aunt Charlie Dodson of Searcy, a son Doug Cook and wife Jennifer of Searcy , his daughters Angie McKee and husband James McKee also of Searcy, Linda Gleason and husband George of Little Rock, Donna Armstrong of Hot Springs and Brenda Johnson of Arizona, 4 grandsons Dillon Cook and Justin Edwards of Searcy, Erick Merriman of Little Rock, and Dustin Johnson of Arizona, 6 granddaughters Lexie Jansa, Erin McKee, Jordan Watts of Searcy , Angie Shearin of Hot Springs, Amy Baden of Little Rock and Christie VerBruggee of Arizona, one niece Kathy Hamlett (Howard) of Conway, two nephews Steve and Ben (Cindy) Spangler of Conway, Peggy Huntsman who was his friend and partner in his final years and many other extended family and friends.

He was a dedicated serviceman and leader in the Arkansas National Guard for over 40 years. His relentless dedication to his country began when he was one of the officers in charge at the Central High School desegregation back in the 1957's. He was also the Governors Liaison during the Cuban refugee relocation in 1982. Colonel Cook was a leader of many and respected by his peers. He was also a very dedicated father and friend. He was a member of Harmony Methodist church where he and his late wife taught Sunday school as long as their health permitted. Pap Paw was always there anytime you needed him for advice, criticism or just someone to spend time with that had a genuine interest in what you had to say. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, September 20th at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home with interment to follow at Harmony Cemetery near Center Hill. Visitation will be 4 - 6 p.m. Saturday, September 19th at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home.
