Mary Elizabeth (Cook) Spangler, a treasure to all who met her and a faithful servant of the Lord, went home to her Heavenly Father on November 18th, 2021.
Born on October 18th, 1934, in Searcy, Arkansas, Beth was raised in a loving home by her parents, Bernice (Sipes) Cook and W.B. Cook, with her brother, W.A. (Bill) Cook. She loved, and was loved by, her Searcy friends and family, and later her Conway friends and family.
Beth attended the Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA), where she was a majorette. Later, she fell in love and married CB Spangler on June 12, 1955. The couple moved to Little Rock, Jonesboro, then Conway, and had three children: Katherine (Kathy) Hamlett, Steve Spangler, and Bennett (Ben) Spangler - all of Conway.
Beth was very active in her church, and even taught Sunday School in Searcy at the age of 19. Later, she served on the church board under four pastors, and always participated in the church choir. The name ''Elizabeth'' in Hebrew means ''Dedicated to God,'' which is an incredibly fitting description for her! She truly loved to be in her Father's House.
The Girl Scouts, P.T.A. of Ida Burns, Pine St. Day Care, Faulkner County Extension Services, Conway Career Center, Conway High School, and Conway Human Development Center were all blessed by Beth's hard work and dedication to serving others. She also was active in Bible Study Fellowship and Joy of Living - a strong and faithful prayer warrior with her many friends.
Beth was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother, as well as her husband of 46 years, CB Spangler, and youngest son at age 55, Ben Spangler. Survivors include: her daughter Kathy and her husband Howard, with children Bradley Hamlett and Christa (Bailey) Burns. Her son Steve and wife Kim Spangler, with children Josh Spangler, Savannah Morgan, and Blakelea Leach. Her daughter-in-law Cindy Spangler, with children Brent and wife Lindsey Spangler, and Tyler Spangler.
To Beth, ''Grannie'' was the best title her family could have given her - she loved each and every one of her children (3), grandchildren (7), great-grandchildren (6), and all extended family. Even if you were not related, you learned to call her ''Grannie,'' because she treated you with the same amount of care and love that she showed to all her family!
The visitation will be held at the Roller McNutt Funeral Home on Monday, November 22nd, from 6pm-8pm. The funeral will be on Tuesday, November 23rd at 10am, at Conway's First Church of the Nazarene. Beth had asked that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the church's Building Fund, or to Kindred Hospice In-Home Care. She wanted to thank the Stonebridge senior center for filling her last months with joy and many blessings. Please know that if you're reading this and knew her in any way, she prayed for you and loved you. While we will miss her dearly, we know she is finally at peace and rejoicing with her Creator.
