*When John E Canfield was born on September 13, 1798, in Edgefield, South Carolina, his father, John, was 28 and his mother, Sarah, was 20. He married Martha Permelia Jones on December 2, 1821, in his hometown. They had 11 children in 18 years. He died on August 19, 1877, in Center Hill, Arkansas, having lived a long life of 79 years, and was buried in White, Arkansas.
