Vernon A. Meeks Sr. "Boots,” 82, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the John R. Williamson House.

He was born Aug. 21, 1932, to Theodore Roosevelt Meeks and Ina Mae Petes Meeks in El Dorado. He graduated from Washington High School. He was in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War before he became an employee of Cooper Tire and Rubber.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Maudella Meeks Purifoy, Thaddeus Meeks and Joe Cecil Meeks; and one grandson, Christopher Ryan Meeks-Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Albertine Sledge Meeks of El Dorado; three sons, Vernon A. Meeks Jr. of Alexandria, La., Anthony J. Meeks of El Dorado, and Marvin J. Meeks of Palm Bay, Fla.; five daughters, Joyce A. Meeks and Janet M. Meeks, both of Hampton,Va., Sonya J. Meeks-Johnson and Sherecia L. Banks, both of El Dorado, and Roberta M. Meeks of Stone Mountain, Ga; one sister, Margie R. Meeks-Johnson of Rockford, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the funeral home.

Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. D.L. Hegler officiating. Burial will follow in Lott Burgy Cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home of El Dorado.
