Local Woman Dies Tuesday

Funeral is Held Wednesday at Christian church for Mrs. Martha Ann Barry.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Martha Ann Berry, aged 72 years, who died Monday at her home on East Maple Street, was conducted at the First Christian church Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The Rev. Jesse A. Mason, pastor conducted the service. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery with the Evans Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Death followed an illness of several weeks, which became critical a week ago. Mrs. Berry was born in Paris, September 15, 1864. She had spent her entire life time here. She was a member of the Christian church. Before her marriage Mrs. Berry was Miss Martha Ann Lee, member of a prominent Paris pioneer family. She is the widow of the late J.C.Berry, well known Paris businessman. During his lifetime she assisted him in the operation of his grocery store business. Active pallbearers were: W.C, Joe, Victor, Fay, and Walter Lee and J.K. Balkman. Honorary pallbearers were Miss Elizabeth Hampton, Miss Fay Moore, Miss Robby McMillan, Miss Ercie Chastain, Miss Annabel Freeman, and Mrs. Cal Wiggins. Survivors are two sons, Cathey Berry of San Antonio, Texas and Ernest Berry of Washington, D.C., three daughters Mrs. John Foster of Chattanooga, Tenn; Mrs. John Nolan of Little Rock; Mrs. Mary A, Goss of Fort Smith; Four Brothers, N.E. Lee of Russelville; W.H. Lee of Childers, Texas; Wesley Lee and J.F. Lee both of Paris; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Balkman of Magazine; and Mrs. Jane Redding of Muskogee, OKla.; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
