MARIONVILLE, Mo. — Robert Gordon Brundle, 95 years old, went to be with the Lord Feb. 3, 2012, in Marionville, Mo.
He was born in Flint, Mich., and graduated from Flint Central High School and from General Motors Technical Institute. He was employed by General Motors Corporation for over 45 years as a design engineer and superintendent of quality assurance.
During the war years, he was assigned to secret projects in design engineering for the Air Force under the direction of General Curtis LeMay and thus was deferred from entering the service.
His hobbies were woodworking, golf and music. He was an accomplished trumpeter. Having grown up in a musical Salvation Army family, he started playing the cornet and trumpet while in the sixth grade. He played these instruments for over 80 years in bands ranging from Salvation Army bands to community and dance bands and had the honor of playing under the direction of John Phillip Sousa and for Carnegie Hall opera stars.
He moved from Bella Vista, Ark., to the Ozark Methodist Manor in Marionville in the spring of 2007.
Above all, his love of the Lord and service through music ministry led him to active membership in both Bella Vista Baptist Church in Bella Vista and First Baptist Church in Marionville. For many years he was a Gideon and held offices with them. He will be long remembered by many for his wit and his wisdom.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Mary Ellen Brundle of 1 Coke Drive, Marionville, MO 65705; as well as a son, Gerald Robert Brundle of Orion Twp., Mich.; and two daughters, Joanne Guiclard of Alpharetta, Ga., and Judy Andrew of Dallas, Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Marionville to celebrate Bob's life. He will be interred in Bella Vista Cemetery in Bella Vista, Ark.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army.
