BELLA VISTA — Douglas E. Lovett, 89, of Bella Vista died Dec, 11, 2002, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born Nov. 23, 1913, in Chicago, Ill., to Edwin C. and Myrtie Rowlett Lovett. He attended school at Garden Grove, Iowa, and was active in sports. He graduated from Parson College in 1937 and was active in the football and basketball programs. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, as an armed guard officer aboard liberty ships. He retired from Chase Investment Co. He was president of the Iowa Association of Finance Companies in 1953 and president of the Retail Credit Association in Des Moines, Iowa, in 196l. He was a school board member of the Clive, Iowa, Independent District and the West Des Moines School District for 11 years. He belonged to the Central Presbyterian Church and the Des Moines Golf and Country Club. He retired to Bella Vista in 1979 where he played in golf groups. He served on the POA recreation committee and the nominating committee. He was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church and served on its board of trustees. He served two terms on the advisory board of the Bella Vista branch of Arvest Bank.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen Cassat Lovett; two sons, Ed Lovett and wife Anne of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Ken Lovett and wife Rebecca of Lake Bluff, Ill.; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one sister, Marian Nordstrum of Albuquerque, N.M.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bella Vista Community Church with the Rev. Richard Lindman officiating.

Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., Bella Vista, 72714, or the Bella Vista Library, 11 Dickens Place, Bella Vista, 72714.
