September 23, 1928 - January 18, 2022

Bobby Lee Slayton, 93, of Minturn died on January 18, 2022 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born in Minturn, Arkansas to Emmett T and Ona Estes Slayton on September 23, 1928. Bobby lived in Minturn his nearly his whole life. He married Helen Warner Slayton on Sept 5, 1959. He was a faithful Christian and served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon at the Hopewell Assembly of God Church until it closed and then he and Helen attended Faith Assembly of God Church of Tuckerman. He taught school when he was 17 years old at a one room school at Pugh (close to where Owl City Road is now). He was a chemist at Scullen Steel Works in Benton Harbor, Michigan for a short time but it was just too cold for him! Bobby was a 1946 Valedictorian of Clover Bend High School and attended Arkansas State University.

He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War as a cryptographer. After the war he went to work at Emerson Electric in St Louis for five and a half years. There he managed to save enough money to return to Minturn and buy a farm. He farmed cotton, soybeans, and rice until he retired in 1982. He also had cattle from 1957 until 1976.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his brother, Billy Slayton; and sisters, Agnes Coombes and Wanda Odell.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Helen, of the home; his sons, Reggie Slayton of Hoxie and Philip Slayton of Minturn; his grandson, Eric Slayton of Jonesboro; and his brother, Emmett Slayton of Jonesboro.

A graveside service will be held at Strangers Home Cemetery at 2pm, January 20, 2022 with Charles Davis of McCrory officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of House Gregg Funeral Home.
