Married: April 20, 1937

Bernice "Sis" Hendricks was born on Oct. 16, 1919, to Samuel and Nettie Pitts in Oil City, La. She died Jan. 27, 2016, at the age of 96 due to complications from a recent bout with pneumonia. Mrs. Hendricks was in Hospice surrounded by loved ones when she passed.
Sis, as most adults called her, was a tough, nurturing, active woman who cared for her husband after his debilitating stroke until his death in 1992. She took care of the couple's home and property and chauffeured them many miles as they often visited and vacationed with family in Louisiana and Florida.
Mrs. Hendricks was a woman of many talents. She played piano, sewed, quilted, upholstered both furniture and cars, made dolls and Christmas stockings, and grew the most beautiful roses and violets one has ever seen. Throughout her life, she seemed to enjoy nothing more than getting comfortable in her favorite chair and reading book after book or working advanced crossword puzzles at her kitchen bar seated next to her unabridged Webster's Dictionary. She loved to fish and would always have at least two rods baited and in the water at the same time as she waited to battle with any fish that dared take the bait. She was a phenomenal woman, and she continued these activities until she was rendered unable.
Sis was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Edgar Pitts; her mother, Nettie Westmoreland Pitts; husband, Edgar Cleo Hendricks; sisters Winifred White and Juanola Neal; brother, Edgar Pitts, and grandson Jeff Hendricks.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Anne Stroupe and Jean Couch, and one brother, Kennard Pitts; five children, Carol Pickering and husband John, Wilda Wenk and husband Craig, Gerald "Ikey" Hendricks and wife Pat, Charles "Jody" Hendricks and wife Diane, and Janice Glascock; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Hendricks will be Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at the Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. There will be a graveside service honoring her life at Old Parkers Chapel Cemetery Friday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. Services under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
