*When Joshua Prestley Merritt was born on June 3, 1835, in Hall, Georgia, his father, Elisha, was 35 and his mother, Anna, was 28. He married Arilla Johnston Morrow Merritt in 1860 in Arkansas. They had one child during their marriage. He died on August 10, 1904, in Kensett, Arkansas, at the age of 69.
