Donald N. Haldeman, 94, of Coralville, Iowa, formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Oct. 6, 2006, at Windmill Manor in Coralville, following a long illness. He was born Jan, 6, 1912, in Carlisle, Iowa, to Harry Haldeman and Laura Mae Buchanan Haldeman.
He was raised in Indianola, Iowa. He married Louise Faye Nuzum in 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa. He lived in Bella Vista from 1975 to 2004, then moved to Coralville.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and made a career of the Navy. He retired from the military in 1962 with the rating of chief boatswain's mate. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a shipping clerk for Armstrong Tire for 13 years, retiring in 1975. He was active in the Free Masons and the Shriners. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Faye Haldeman, in 1999; and three brothers, Richard Haldeman, Frank Haldeman and James Haldeman.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Haldeman of Coralville, and Ken Haldeman and Linda Wright of Iowa City, Iowa; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Haldeman and Arlene Haldeman of Indianola, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Cory Haldeman and Chase Haldeman, both of Iowa City.
Inurnment of cremains will be at the Bella Vista Memorial Gardens in Bella Vista, Ark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Community Church.
Arrangements are by Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City, Iowa.
