December 19, 1939 - February 20, 2014
Jackie Ray Selman, 74, of El Dorado, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Life Touch Hospice's John R. Williamson House.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1939, in Kingsland, to Jeff and Beatrice Mosley Selman. He was a graduate of El Dorado High School, Southern Arkansas University and Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. He was a teacher, coach and assistant principal in the El Dorado School District and was later employed at El Dorado Chemical Co.
Mr. Selman enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, and later in life did woodworking as a hobby. He loved to watch his grandchildren play sports.
He was a "Born Again" Christian with a deep love for his Lord and Savior, and studied his Bible daily. He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and taught the Men's Sunday School Class until his illness prevented.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one brother, Bob Selman. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat Selman; son, Jack Edward Selman (Chantle'); two grandchildren, Mallory Nichole Selman and Logan Nuell Selman, all of El Dorado; two brothers, Roy Selman (Sylvia) of Hector, and Emmett Selman (Wanda) of Hot Springs Village; one sister, Janet Ross of Foreman; brother-in-law, Joe Hunt of El Dorado; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today at Bailey Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Old Parkers Chapel Cemetery, with Bro. Tommy Mellinger officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado.
