*When Matilda Lou Holladay was born on August 7, 1853, in Mississippi, her father, William, was 34, and her mother, Margaret, was 29. She married Marion Thompson Pence on February 14, 1869, in White, Arkansas. They had eight children in 10 years. She died as a young mother on April 10, 1881, in Dogwood, Arkansas, at the age of 27, and was buried in Walker, Arkansas.
