Married Cora Lela Wright on Dec. 24, 1943.
They lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma. David was a potash miner and died of a brain tumor in 1976.

Cora Lela (Wright) Shirley, 88 of Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Sunday November 4, 2012 in Carlsbad.
She was born on January 10, 1924 in Atkins, Arkansas to her late parents William Sherdan and Joyce (Casto) Wright.
Cora married David O'Neal Shirley on December 24, 1943.
David preceded her in death on August 8, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her son, Larry O'Neal Shirley and grandson Kerry Douglas Shirley in 1982.
Cora is survived by her four children; daughters, Joy Hutchinson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Sharon Griffin & husband Joe of Fort Defiance, Arizona and sons, Daniel Shirley & wife Susan of Carlsbad, New Mexico & Gaius Shirley of Bristow, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Brian Hutchinson, David Hutchinson, Cynde Rutledge, Pamela Ellison, Misty Kaiser, Dr. Zandree Stidham , Jason Shirley and Dr. Courtney Shockley; 18 great-grandchildren & 3 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Oakwood Cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris.
