Herman
November 11, 1899 - January 1, 1988

Herman was born Nov. 11, 1899 at the Heathcott family home in Turkey Ridge, near Driggs. Heathcott was 16 when he herded cattle for the late Gen Friddle. By the time he was 21, Herman was married and buying cattle on his own all over Logan County. His last drive on horseback was in 1935. Drovers assisting him were his son Don, brothers Bill and Spud, and the Beck brothers, Hoytand Velbert. Heathcott was fond of hunting coons and keeping dogs. He liked loud music, red shirts, chocolate cake, and Ford trucks.

Herman Alfred Heathcott, 88, of Paris died Friday in Paris. He was a retired cattle buyer and rancher and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Paris. Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Monday in White Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Close friends and relatives who paid final respects to Herman Heathcott like to think of the old-timer as being in his last round up. They found themselves humming, "I was country when country wasn't country."
