August 6, 1923 - December 9, 2010
Jean Pickens, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went home to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior in South Bend, Indiana on Thursday, December 9, 2010 surrounded with the infinite love and respect of her family. The only daughter and the youngest of Annie Barnett Hicks and Grover Cleveland Hicks four children, Mrs. Pickens was born in Kensett, Arkansas on Monday, August 6, 1923. On Thursday, December 28, 1939, she wed Clell Watson Pickens, the love of her life with whom she was married for 52 years. Part of the 'greatest generation', as her husband served his country in the US Army stationed in Germany, she served in a Munitions Factory supporting the war effort. Having displayed a model work ethic her entire life, Mrs. Pickens retired from Swifts Premium Meat Packing Company of East St. Louis, Illinois and was a proud Union Member. In addition, she was Member of the Eastern Star, Searcy Chapter. Mrs. Pickens greatest work was her labor of love. A tremendous example as caregiver to everyone who needed help, she nursed family members and loved ones through life and death.
Mrs. Pickens, the matriarch of her family, is preceded in death by her husband, her son-in-law, Denny Waid and great grandson, Maxwell Foley Ramstrom. She is survived by daughters, Doris Pickens Foley (Tom) and Joan Waid; grandchildren, Michael A. Foley (Allen), Elizabeth Ann Felten (Doug), Rebecca Foley Ramstrom (Todd), Shannon Waid Kitzrow (Ben), Christopher Waid (Trisha); great-grandchildren, Joel Felten, Anna Felten, Brayden Waid, Levi Waid, Savannah Ramstrom, Ella Ramstrom and Bryce Kitzrow.
Visitation will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Pickens Chapel Church in Letona, Arkansas.
