Three Local Miners lose lives In Explosion At Peerless Mine

A gas explosion at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Peerless Coal mine located between Hackett and Greenwood claimed the lives of three Paris men and one from Greenwood.

Dead from Paris are Joe Martin 47, L D Sewell, 36; and Gene Moore, 35. George Simmons of Greenwood was the fourth man.

Mr. Sewell was born in Roseville. He had spent most of his lifetime in Logan county. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Sewell, his father Poney Sewell of Paris; his mother Mrs. Sewell of Tulsa, Okla; and five sisters.
