Gary Alan McCourt, 68, of Searcy, died Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Unity Health Hospital in Searcy. He was born February 27, 1951 in Elyeria, Ohio to the Currence Jackson McCourt and Delia “Dee” Elsie (Manis) McCourt. Gary started basic training in June of 1969 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, he was there for 90 days pending class availability at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland for calibration school. In July of 1970 he was held over at Fort Bening in Georgia awaiting transportation to airborne school; after school he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In February of 1972 he was honorably discharged and returned to active duty in September at Red Stone Arsenal. From there he was re-assigned to Permasens Army Depot in Germany in June of 73. He was not in the Air Force, but re-assigned to the Lowry Airforce Base as joint service school instructor until January 1979. He applied and was accepted as Warrant March 1, 1980. Once again having another re-assignment he went to the 95th Maintenance Company with duty station at Fort Polk in Louisiana in 1980. From 1983-1987 he was stationed in Frankfort, Germany as the 521st Maintenance Company OPS officer. From there he went to Fort Hood, Texas duty station at the 95th Maintenance Company from 1987-1990. Gary retired from the United States Army and his service to this country on March 1, 1990 as Chief Warrant Officer III.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy (Brock) McCourt of Searcy; children, Kreig McCourt (Tricia) of Union Grove, AL, Brock McCourt (Katie) of Searcy, Kimberly Johnson (Lance) of Union Grove, AL and Courtney McCourt of Searcy; grandchildren, Hunter Allen, Justin Artis, Kody McCourt, Chrissanna McCourt, Gabriel McCourt and Korbin McCourt; great-grandchildren, Konnor McCourt, Jackson Artis and Kayden Artis; siblings, Jeff McCourt, Marlene Williams, Debbie Kent, Gwen Egler (Bill) and Jennifer Rhodenbaugh (Chris); father and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Martha Brock; brother and sister-in-law, Karen and Jamey Hale; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be conducted 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Bald Knob. Interment with full military honors will be in the Faith Assembly Cemetery in Searcy. Arrangements entrusted to Powell Funeral Home Bald Knob-Judsonia.
