In Honor of James Nicholas Marks (1825-1917)
James Nicholas (Jim Nick) Marks was one of the early Arkansas' most colorful settlers. A life-long student, farmer, soldier, surevor, geologist, historian, newspaper publisher and correspondent, and a searcher of the Truth. And an "original"
His formula for longevity:
Deep breathing
Strenuous activity
Liberal diet of apples
hopeful thought, hearty laughter
cheerful, temperate companions
"I have discovered that if we keep all our thought and feelings right, we will be angels while still in living form."
"My ambition is to be myself, so that when the Enumerator comes, He may say, 'One Jim Nick Marks' If you would flatter me much, say I am an ORIGINAL"
