Virgil Lavon Pratt, 77, of Ozark died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Muskogee, Okla. He was a Navy veteran, a retired regional supervisor for OG&E, a member of Ozark First United Methodist Church, Master with Victory Masonic Lodge in Barling, Master with Ozark Masonic Lodge No. 79, a member of Aux Arc Gun Club, the Pajaro Gun Club and the Grand National Quail Club and Wall Street Hillbilly's Investment Club. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ozark First United Methodist Church with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. He is survived by his wife, Helen; a daughter, Lavonna Thomas of Rogers; a son, Troy Pratt of Fort Smith; a sister, Marjorie Grubb of Idaho; a brother, Jerry E. Pratt of Oregon; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Clifford Bat Coley, Sonny Hill, Wayne Miner, Jim Hilburn, Roy Jansson and Laban Dyer. The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today.

November 28, 1927 - November 15, 2020

Helen K. Hefley Pratt, age 92, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
She was born November 28, 1927, in Lurton, Newton Co, Arkansas, to Mitchell and Ola Shelton Hefley.

Helen and husband Virgil were founding members and supporters of Central Christian Church in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker totally devoted to the care and love for her husband and children. She enjoyed flowers, sewing, reading, and fishing with Virgil.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Virgil L. Pratt to whom she was married December 31, 1947. Also passing before her were her parents, Mitchell and Ola Hefley, brothers Doyne and Kenneth Hefley, and sister Sybil Martin.

Helen is survived by son Troy Pratt and wife Melissa of Fort Smith, daughter Lavonna Thomas and husband Richard of Rogers; granddaughters Kathleen Weaver and husband Dave of Rogers, and Sara Hart and husband Nate of Providence Forge, Virginia; great grandchildren Benjamin, Samuel, and Sara Weaver of Rogers.

Funeral services will be under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Central Christian Church of Fort Smith. Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a brief visitation and viewing period before the formal service at 11:00 a.m. CDC and Health Department guidelines in terms of Covid-19 safety will be observed. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Ozark, Arkansas.
