When William Smith was born in 1801 in North Carolina, his father, Major, was 23 and his mother, Mary, was 19. He had three sons and four daughters with Priscilla (Percilla) Gilliam between 1834 and 1861. He died in 1885 having lived a long life of 84 years, and was buried in Searcy, Arkansas.
