Audrey Maxwell "Max" Patterson of Searcy, age 93, was met at Heaven's gates by his wife of 64 years, Loeta Patterson, on November 27, 2017. He and Loeta Jackson Patterson were married from February 15, 1945 until her death in 2009. He was born March 6, 1924, in Rose Bud, Arkansas, to Elmo and Josie Patterson. Max attended Draughon's School of Business in Little Rock, Arkansas. Max and Loeta owned and operated Patterson Cleaners for 38 years on Main Street in Searcy. Max was well known as a Little All-American Basketball player in his youth and a high school basketball referee in central Arkansas for over 25 years. He was general chairman of the 1954 Miss Arkansas Pageant that was held in Searcy. Max was a Little League Baseball coach who coached both of his sons to winning seasons and was a mentor coach to many Searcy boys. Max, a championship golfer, won the senior Searcy Country Club Senior Championship and the Super Senior Men's Arkansas State Golf Association Championship. He made 13 holes-in-one during his golfing career and was known as one of the best putters in the area.
Max was past president of the Searcy Young Business Men's Club, past member of the Lions Club with perfect attendance, Searcy Chamber of Commerce member, and a member of the Arkansas couples golf circuit with Loeta. Max was a member of First United Methodist Church and an active member of the Methodist Men's Fellowship Group for many years.
In addition to golfing, he loved watching the stock market, watching Razorback football and especially all men and women college and professional basketball on television. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a friend to all.
Mr. Patterson is survived by two sons, Steve (Jan) Patterson of Naples, Florida and John (Cara) Patterson of Searcy; four grandchildren, Keath (Jen) Patterson of Jupiter, Florida; Stephanie (Robert) Brown of Birmingham, Alabama; Anna (Aaron) Strong, and Amy (Birc) Morledge, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; and nine great-grandchildren, Delaney and Nate Patterson of Jupiter, Florida; Maxwell, Spencer, and Samantha Brown of Birmingham, Alabama; Savannah, Walker, and Bennett Morledge, and Isaac Strong all of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by niece, Linda (David) Bailey of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and other loving relatives.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 304 North Main Street, Searcy, Arkansas, 72143, or to the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home, Searcy, Arkansas, on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, from 1 to 2 p.m., and funeral services will be held immediately following at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Powell Funeral Home, 2602 W. Loeta Fay Jackson Patterson of Searcy, age 81, entered into heavenly rest on August 31, 2009, following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Patterson was born June 29, 1928 in Quitman, Arkansas, to John F. and Janie Hooten Jackson and led a very active life, marrying Audrey Maxwell Patterson on February 15, 1945. She and Max owned and operated Patterson Cleaners for 38 years on Main Street in Searcy. Loeta was named Miss Cleburne County in 1941 and was an all-county basketball player for Quitman High School. She was a homemaker, Searcy County Club golf champion, and Searcy Country Club ladies golf tournament chair. Loeta and Max played the couples golf circuit for years throughout the state. Mrs. Patterson was a member of the Phoenix Club, past president of CARTI Auxiliary, and past president of Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a 1948 charter member of the Wesleyan Service Guild, serving as president. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Fulbright Sunday School Class, a Sunday school teacher, and volunteered in the thrift shop. She loved needlework, sewing, cooking, antiquing, and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by her husband of 64 years, Max Patterson; two sons, Steve (Jan) Patterson of Naples, Florida and John (Cara) Patterson of Searcy; four grandchildren, Keath (Jen) Patterson of Tampa, Florida; Stephanie (Robert) Brown of Birmingham, Alabama; Anna (Aaron) Strong, and Amy Patterson and fianc� Birc Morledge, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; and one great granddaughter, Ava Delaney Patterson of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by three brothers, Olen Jackson, Oather Jackson, and Jimmy Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 304 North Main Street, Searcy, Arkansas.
