When Laura Cowan was born on August 31, 1887, in Searcy, Arkansas, her father, Alex, was 23, and her mother, Susan, was 21. She married Frank Ed Young on October 31, 1912. They had one child during their marriage. She died on March 31, 1961, at the age of 73, and was buried in her hometown.
