BELLA VISTA — Walter Dean Durfey, 90, of Bella Vista died March 12, 2002, at St. Mary's. Hospital Rogers. He was born Jan. 22, 1912, in Wellington, Texas, to William Dean and Minnie Lee Campbell Durfey. He worked in the gasoline division of Texaco for more than 37 years. He was chief petty officer in the Navy during World War II. He and his wife moved to Bella Vista in 1977 from Midland, Texas. He was a member of the Bella Vista First United Methodist Church, the 9-Hole Golf Association, the Fly Tyers, the Northwest Arkansas Woodcarvers, the Bella Vista Woodcarvers, the United Methodist Men's Club and the Bella Vista Garden Club.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Alma Davis Durfey, to whom he was married 58 years; two sons, Walter Lewis Durfey of Tambo, Bolivia, South America, and Garry Dean Durfey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Deanna Lynn Nease of Rogers; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista with the Rev. Larry Williams and the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bella Vista Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shoe Box Ministry, c/o First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, Bella Vista, 72714.
