BELLA VISTA — Marvin Alvin Chapman, 85, of Bella Vista died Sept. 17, 1999, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born July 31, 1914, in Washington, D.C., to Harmon and Pearl F. Chapman. His entire career was with the federal government, staring in 1936 with the Treasury Department. He later worked in the office of the Secretary of War and for the War Production Board, serving as a regional executive assistant in Kansas City, Mo. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Central Pacific Theater, including Iwo Jima. He also served in the Korean War and held the rank of major in the Fleet Marine Force Retired Reserves. From 1946-71, except for military service, he was with the Veterans Administration and was director of the VA Center in Danville, Ill., prior to his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Chapman, to whom he was married Dec. 2, 1939; one daughter and son-in-law Mary Alice Fischer and Warren of Pea Ridge; one grandchild; five great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. A private service will be scheduled at Bella Vista Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
