OBIT

Willie Lucille “Johnnie” Yarbrough, age 99, of Jacksonville, passed away November 23, 2019 surrounded by those that loved her. She was born July 23, 1920 in Memphis, Texas. She was the daughter of John and Annie May Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jack Yarbrough; daughter, Jackie Stewart and son, David Yarbrough.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann Yarbrough Brown and Brownie Brown and daughter, Patricia Yarbrough; grandchildren, Matthew Stewart, Sandy Hammons, Kenny Yarbrough, Becky Jones, Keith Yarbrough, C.W. Gardenhire, Seth Bradshaw, Zackary Bradshaw, Hope Larson and many great grandchildren.

Johnnie was an original member of Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville where she taught Sunday school for umpteen years. She was not only an active member of Second Baptist Church, she was also an involved member of her community. She worked in the voting poles for over 50 years, Leader of the Rainbow Girls, PTO member/room mom, Baptist Care Center volunteer, AARP, Eastern Star member and Pulaski County Home Extension club. Johnnie loved to tell stories and give advice. Our favorite story is how she rode her horse to school. She graduated high school in Memphis, Texas where she played tuba in the band and later attended Draughns College of Business.

Johnnie survived many obstacles in her long lifetime, living through World War II, a hurricane, losing a child, losing a husband, and a large oak tree smashing through her home. Johnnie was a sophisticated woman that loved fashion, getting her hair fixed, nails painted, and going shopping; especially for shoes! Johnnie was faithful to our Lord and Savior, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an exceptional grandmother to many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Grandma Johnnie will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in knowing she is rejoicing with Jesus in Heaven. Her favorite saying was “pretty is as pretty does”.

I Corinthians 13:13 “And now abideth Faith, Hope, and Charity, these three; but the greatest of these is Love”.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2019 at Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Reverend David O’Dell will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Arrangements by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home, (501)982-2136.
