Opal Charlene Hammons, 87 year old resident of Tulsa, died Thursday November 17, 2011 at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was born April 6, 1924 in LaRue, Arkansas to Walter and Frankie (Meskimen) Oxford. Opal worked for Skaggs/Albertson's for many years. She was married to James Marvin Hammons, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1957. Opal was a member of the West Tulsa Free Will Baptist Church.

The family includes: three sons, James Paul Hammons and wife Johnye Ruth of Tulsa, Johnny Lee Hammons and wife Doris of Tulsa, Clifford Harold Hammons and wife Sondra of Big Cabin; three sisters, Ina Driver of Rogers, Arkansas, Daisy Griffin of Wichita, Kansas, Alice Bailey of Locust Grove; one brother, Vernon Oxford of Tennessee; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The graveside service will be held Monday, November 21, 2011 at Noon, at the Austin Cemetery Southeast of Rogers, Arkansas (Best Community). Arrangements are by the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
