Mary Pitchford Szegedy, 85
Mary (Acklin) Pitchford Szegedy of Mountain Home, died Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Gassville Therapy and Living Center. She was 85.
Mary was born March 6, 1929, in Wild Cherry, Fulton County, Arkansas, the daughter of Arthur and Dora (Alexander) Acklin. She was the tenth of twelve children, and the last surviving child. Mary attended school at Norfork and Buford. She obtained an LPN degree from the Chicago School of Nursing in 1951.
She loved to travel and lived in many places prior to her marriage. She wed Leo G. Pitchford June 24, 1953 in Mountain Home. After his death she married Stephen Szegedy in 1981 in Gainesville, Missouri.
She retired from Baxter Travenol in 1995 after 25 years, and later enjoyed working part-time at Wal-Mart as a greeter.
She was of the Baptist faith, a member of the NRA, Eastern Star, and was a CARTI Volunteer. She enjoyed being home on the farm, dancing and spending time with her daughter, son and grandson.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Patty Pitchford Fletcher, and son, Glen Pitchford, both from Mountain Home; her grandson, William R.G. Fletcher of Russellville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition her dear friend and dancing partner, Gene Churches of Shirley and her caregiver in her final years, Tracy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, brothers, and sisters, Chester, Esther, Buck, Ruby, Trilba, Sylvia, Dolly, Fay, Tommy, and Unalea.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the Conner-Hankins Funeral Home and Cremation Center with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2014, at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery near Mountain Home. Burial will be to follow under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Pallbearers will be William Fletcher, Darrell Franks, Butch Strong, Bill Cobb, Les Kitchell, and Donald Gray.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mary's nieces and nephews including, Sheri Jones, Vernon Ray Jones, Dolan Acklin, Normalea Funkhouser, Liz Everidge Parsons, Geraldine Acklin Lamb, Bonnie Cobb Vaughn, Faye Cobb Clark, W.A. Cobb, Lunnie Franks, Sandy Kirkover, Stacy Franks Havner, Tracy Franks Gilbert.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607 or Alzheimer's Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.
