Jewell Maxine Rice-Carr, 89 of Cleveland, Arkansas, passed away Monday, December 19th 2011. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents Naomi Young Rice and Louis L. Rice of Blytheville, Arkansas; three sisters, Odie Herring of Memphis, Tennessee, Irene Barber of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Thelma Putman of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one stepdaughter, Patricia Carr-Maxwell of Cleveland.

She is survived by her husband, Jerome Carr and his children, Joan Gail Carr, John Dale Carr, Brenda Jo Carr all of Cleveland, Arkansas; Diann Carr Moody of Lonoke, Arkansas, Darold Carr of Cleveland, Viola Lynn Carr Mourot of Morrilton, Arkansas; stepchildren from marriage to Ralph Radford Tillman, Rosemary Larkin of Newborn, Tennessee, Deborah Heath of Durango, Colorado and Alice Fisher of Covington, Tennessee; three sisters, Louise Hartwig of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Irma Branit of Fairway, Kansas, Dorothy Hyde, of Blytheville, Arkansas; brother, Donald Rice of Little Rock, Arkansas.

After graduating from Blytheville High School she served in the U.S. Navy Waves- in Hutchinson, Kansas and Kaneohe Naval Air Station in Hawaii, during World War II.

Upon receiving a certificate in fine arts from Memphis Academy of Arts, she worked for Memphis Publishing Co. in Memphis, Tennessee, for 13 years and spent another 2 years at Arma Advertising Specialties as a commercial artist in Dallas, Texas. She retired after 12 years as a commercial artist for the Dallas Morning News.

Jewell's retirement years was volunteering at St. Anthony's Hospital Auxiliary and Literary Coterie Woman's Club in Morrilton. She had an in depth knowledge of politics and wrote several articles for the Morrilton newspaper and Arkansas Democrat-Gazette along with painting in her spare time.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, at Vinson Chapel Cemetery on Hwy 95 with Chaplin Don Erwin officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

The family would like to thank, Dr. Stephen Carter; the staff of River Chase Rehabilitation and Care Center in Morrilton and Arkansas Hospice for the comfort and care provided during her seven week stay.

Jerome Carr, 90 of Cleveland, Arkansas, passed away Friday Oct 24th, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess Lee Carr and Virgie Viola Boyer, two brothers, Darrow Carr of Cleveland Arkansas and Jess Lee Carr Jr of Pocahontas, Arkansas, one daughter Patricia Carr-Maxwell and second wife Jewell Maxine Rice-Carr.

He is survived by one brother Van D. Carr of Russellville and Jerome's children, Joan Gail Carr, John Dale Carr (Phyllis), Brenda Jo Carr, Darold Carr, all of Cleveland, Arkansas; Diann Carr-Moody (Ed) of Lonoke, Arkansas, Viola Lynn Carr-Mourot (Dana) of Solgohachia, Arkansas.

Five grand-children, Mellissa Deann Robinson-Stratton (Sean) of Burleson, Texas, Samantha Nicole Maxwell-Keelin (Kerry) of Conway Arkansas, Matthew McKenzie of Conway, Arkansas, Brandon Chase Mourot of Conway, Arkansas and Bridgette Leigh Mourot-Russell (David) of Morrilton, Arkansas.
Six great-grand children, Kimber Nicole Keelin, Nathan James Keelin, Cole Stratton, Garrett Stratton, Corbin Xander McKenzie, Silas Maxwell Mckenzie.

He served three years as a Marine in Hawaii during War War II. Jerome's retirement years were spent farming, hunting and fishing as Jack Stobaugh and Mark Flowers can attest to.

The family would like to thank the staff of River Chase Rehabilitation and Care Center in Morrilton for the care provided during his stay.

Special Thanks to New Prospect Church for their prayers, calls and care packages and to Pastor Patrick Green Jr's visit and prayer while Jerome was in Little Rock hospital.

To Leroy Rutherford for his visits to the hospitals and home to give a word of encouragement which was greatly appreciated.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2014, at Vinson Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Leroy Rutherford officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 26, at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
