CLARKSVILLE — Joe J. Oberste, 73, of Clarksville died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at St. Edwards Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.

Born Dec. 4, 1938, in Clarksville, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Lela Horn Oberste. A 1956 graduate of Subiaco Academy, he attended College of the Ozarks and Arkansas Tech University. He was formerly president of Johnson County Fair Association, city carrier and supervisor for Clarksville Postal Service. He was a former member of Clarksville National Guard, retired post master in London and was a retired cattle and chicken farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Frances Reeves Oberste; son, Joseph Martine Oberste of Clarksville; daughter, Suzette Oberste of Clarksville; brother, Jimmy (Betty) Oberste of Clarksville; and grandson, Joseph Tyler (Kaitlin) Oberste of Harrison.

Rosary service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father William Wewers OSB officiating with burial at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery which was originally part of the Oberste Farm.
