Mary Sophie Simmons, 87, of Huntsville, Arkansas, died May 8, 2012 at her home. She was born December 23, 1924 at Boussange, France, the daughter of Jean Pierre and Marie Bucher Dahm. She was a homemaker and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville. Her family moved to Cessang, Luxembourg where she was raised until moving to the United States. She loved her new county and became a citizen in 1960. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Sergeant Major Richard Lee Simmons (USMC, Ret.) on January 1, 2006. She was also preceded in death by two brothers in Luxembourg and one great-granddaughter, Heaven Carroll. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
Survivors include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard Simmons, Jr. and Mary Simmons of Fredricksburg, Virginia, Mark and Candi Simmons of Huntsville, Arkansas and Daniel Simmons of Albany, Georgia; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Lingren of Newberry Springs, California, Bonnie and Joe Cap of Daggett, California and Cindy and Steve Price of Huntsville, Arkansas; one brother and two sisters in Luxembourg; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Saturday, May 19, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Hepler officiating. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home www.brashearsfuneralhome.net of Huntsville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Stephen Price, Jason Salter, Richard Simmons, III, Samuel Simmons, Brian Simmons Thomas Lingren and David Carroll. Honorary pallbearer will be: John Price. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. to 7:00 P. M. on Friday at the funeral home.
