Kenneth W. Farabee, 88, Kansas City, KS, passed away on August 8, 2013, at Gulf Shores Care Center in Ocean Springs, MI while on vacation. The funeral service will be on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS, with a visitation preceding the service from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The graveside service will be Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gravette, AR. Kenneth was born on October 11, 1924 in Alva, OK, to Harland and Lois (Stech) Farabee. He graduated from high school in Siloam Springs, AR and attended John Brown University. Kenneth served our country in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War. After returning from the service, he worked at Pyatte Funeral home where he met Norma while she was playing the piano for a funeral. Eight months later they were married on Christmas Eve, 1953. They moved to Kansas City, KS, where Kenneth attended and graduated from Williams School of Mortuary Science. After graduation, Kenneth worked for Porter Funeral Home for 43 years before retiring in 1991. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School class and served as trustee and usher. Kenneth was preceded in death by his infant son, David, his parents, brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Norma, of nearly 60 years, his son, Steven (Sherry), daughter, Nancy (William), 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Norma M. Farabee, 92, Leawood, KS, passed away May 23, 2017. The graveside service will be 12 noon Tuesday, May 30, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gravette, AR. Norma was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Gravette to John and Ruth (Blackburn) Ferrel. She graduated from high school in Gravette and attended John Brown University. Norma met Kenneth while she was playing the piano for a funeral at Pyeatte Funeral Home, where he worked. Eight months later they were married on Christmas Eve, 1953. They moved to Kansas City, KS, where Kenneth attended and graduated from Williams School of Mortuary Science. Norma worked at Guaranty State Bank before their children were born. Norma began working as the secretary at Mark Twain Elementary School after the children were in school and retired after 21 years in 1991. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School class and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Norma was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Kenneth, infant son, David, her parents and brothers. She is survived by her son, Steven (Sherry), daughter, Nancy (William), 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
