Nelson E. Rakes Jr. “Sonny”, 61 of Austin passed from this life on Thursday, September 21, 2017. He was born Sunday, September 25, 1955 in Danville, Virginia to Nelson E. Rakes Sr. and Jeanette Haywood Rakes. Sonny enjoyed reading, music and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Pamela R. Rakes, mother Jeanette H. Rakes of North Little Rock, son Nelson R. Rakes III of Beebe, step-daughter Lori Hutson Hall (Noel) of Little Rock, and sister Dale Martin (Bob) of Danville, VA. Other survivors include grandchildren Nelson E. Rakes IV. Kiley Ripperger, Charley Rakes, Owen Hall, Alexandra Hall, nieces Shannon Burnette of Danville, VA., and Amy Gray of Roanoke, VA., and a host of extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, September 25, 2017 at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
