Lincoln Girl Dies in West

Mesa, Ariz., Dec 30, (AP)

A Sunday outing in the Superstition Mountains of central Arizona ended in death for a former Lincoln, Ill. girl.

Nettie I Maxey, 17, was killed when she fell from a ledge while hiking with two acquaintances-Roderick White, 26, and his brother, Ronald, 22, both of Phoenix.

Officers said Ronald told them this story;

"We climbed to the top of the mountain about noon. Later, Nettied started down alone. I lost track of her. Rod and I then started to search for her. We found her part way down the mountain, bloody but still breathing."

The young man said several people at the foot of the mountain saw the girl lying on the rocky slope. They climbed up and helped carry her down. She was dead on arrival at a Mesa hospital.

The girl was living in Phoenix with her stepsister, Lolo Johnson, 18.

She had been in Phoenix since November and was working here as a waitress.

She leaves her, Mrs. Bonnie Lee Johnson, her stepfather, Benjamin Johnson, of Lincoln; two brothers, Ivan A. Maxey and Daniel M. Maxey, both of Lincoln; a half brother, Benjamin Johnson; and five sisters, Mrs. Leotis Morris of McRae, Ark., Maudie Bea Maxey, Phyllis Ann Maxey, Reta Beth Johnson and Varetta Kay Johnson, all of Lincoln.

The body will be returned to the Fricke Memorial Home in Lincoln.
