GRANBURY, Texas - Glen Eugene Stephens, born Hiwasse, Ark., Jan. 20, 1933; passed Granbury, Texas, April 27, 2019.
Preceded in death by loving wife, Jean Johnson Stephens; parents, Orville Williams Stephens and Ellen Pindegraft Stephens/Hood/Banks; mother and father-in-law, Dora Mildred Johnson and James Hillary Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Treva Stephens Yeargon and Tommy Yeargon; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn Johnson/Schilling/Rhode, Dick Schilling and Al Rhode; niece Niki Lee Schilling Tisdale; and son-in-law James Demopolos.
Survived by daughters, Robin Lynn Stephens and Melissa Kim Stephens Demopolos; best friend, Bruce Scott; nieces and nephews, Douglass Schilling, Sally and Fred Diederich, Gwen Yeargan, Tom Yeargan Jr, and Gail and Paul Bequett.
After briefly attending the University of Arkansas on a baseball and basketball scholarship, Gene went to work playing baseball for the Boston Red Sox in the 1950s during the Ted Williams era. Other American League Associations were with the Baltimore Orioles, the Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City As. Gene played winter ball in Caracas Venezuela, San Juan Puerto Rico, and Nagoya, Japan. Gene was known by the sports press as the "Arkansas Giselle" and of Major League distinction for the all-time record of three hits in one inning.
After baseball, Gene continued a life based in Oklahoma City where went to work for the Oklahoma Oil and Gas Company Kerr McGee until his retirement.
After retirement Gene and Jean moved to the De Cordova Golf Community in Granbury, Texas, to pursue his love of golf and the good life.
Thanks to The Arbor House of Granbury, Dennis and Donna Timmons, and Randall Smith who provided friendship and support until the end.

We regret to inform all those who knew and loved her that Jean Johnson Stephens transitioned from this world unexpectedly on July 11, 2010. Jean was a lowing and beautiful person who made friends easily. Jean was born January 17 ,1934 in Gravette, Arkansas, to Mr. and Mrs. James Hillary Johnson. She graduated from Gravette High School in 1952 and married Glenn Eugene Stephens that same year. Jean's marriage to Glenn Eugene included making a permanent residence in Oklahoma City, Okla, where she had many friends. Jean traveled nationally and internationally supporting her husband's Major League Baseball career.
Mrs. Stephens personal career was that of a wife, mother and homemaker. She also worked for City Service, the March of Dimes, and as a docent at the Cowboy Hall of fame in Oklahoma City. After retirement, Jean lived with her husband in Granbury, Texas, where she was active in the Granbury Opera Guild and many other community groups.
Mrs. Stephens is preceded in death by her parents, Hill and Dora Johnson; mother and father-in-law, Orville and Ellen Stephens; sister-in-law, Treva Yeargin; brothers-in-law, Dick Schilling and Al Rhode. She is survived by her husband of 57 years; Glenn Eugene Stephens; identical twin sister, Joan Rhode; daughters, Robin Stephens and Kim Demopolos; son-in-law, Jim Demopolos; nephew, Doug Schilling; nieces and their husbands, Niki and Doug Tisdale, Sally and Fred Diederich; and Sassy, her loving pet.
A memorial service in Jean's honor will be held at the Granbury First Christian Church, time to be announced.
