Ray Cummings, 84, of Sulphur Springs, died suddenly on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at his home.

He was born June 13, 1933, in Monterey, California, to Lloyd Whitlow and Norma Mae (Squires) Cummings. He was raised and attended school near Los Angeles, Calif. From 1951 until 1959, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

He lived in Chanute, Kan., and moved to Northwest Arkansas in the late 1980s. Ray was a truck driver and retired in 2005 from Tyson Foods trucking division after 25 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing and NASCAR. He was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Southwest City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jaqueline Rae Hatfield; two great-grandsons, Rhett Levi Hatfield and Bennett Ray Hatfield; and two siblings, Virginia and John Cummings.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Cummings, whom he married on Oct. 4, 1997; five sons, Steve Cummings and wife Kim of Goshen, Damon Cummings and wife Linda of Gravette, Garry Long and wife Marie of Gravette, Brandon Jones and wife Tobi of Colorado, and Chris Jones and wife Jessica of Gravette; a daughter, Brenda Tighe of Longville, La.; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lou Costa of the state of Colorado.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Full Gospel Church in Southwest City, with Richard Hart officiating. Arrangements were by Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City.
