Cyclist, 79, dies in Benton County collision
A Bella Vista cyclist was killed Friday after being struck by a vehicle, according to the Benton County Sheriffs Office.
Jack Allen, 79, died after the collision at McNelly and Looney roads, said Keshia Guyll, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office.
According to an Arkansas State Police crash report, Allen was riding a red bicycle west on McNelly Road toward its intersection with Looney Road at 8:39 a.m.
At the intersection, McNelly veers to the south while Looney meets McNelly from the north, forming what looks like a fork in the road for westbound drivers on McNelly.
State Police said Allen didn't continue on McNelly as it veered south, instead crossing over onto Looney. That when he hit a Ford truck that was heading east on McNelly.
Police said it was wet and raining during the wreck. Allen was the 330th death on Arkansas roads in 2016.

BELLA VISTA — Jack Franklin Allen, 79, passed away after a biking accident on August 19, 2016 near his home in Bella Vista, Ark.
Jack was born October 4, 1936 to John and Ruth Allen in Ottawa, Kansas. He married his wife, Shirley Allen, April 2, 1956 and later graduated from Ottawa University. From 1960 to 1962, they lived in Germany while he served honorably in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed a 30-year career with IBM. In retirement, Jack stayed very active, volunteering with AARP and Crystal Bridges Museum, and attending Bella Vista Community Church.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Allen, two children, Scott Allen (and wife Rochelle) and Laura Parker (and husband, Keith), and three grandchildren, Lauren Allen, Brandon and Nathan Buyce. Services will be held Tuesday, August 23 at Bella Vista Funeral Home; visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to Bella Vista Community Church at 75 E. Lancaster Blvd, Bella Vista AR 72714
