When Katheryn Ermytrude Newsom was born on July 23, 1921, in Union City, Arkansas, her father, Rufus, was 30, and her mother, Clauda, was 30. She married James Wesley Rainey on May 1, 1943. They had two children during their marriage. She died on July 2, 1999, in her hometown at the age of 77, and was buried in Beebe, Arkansas.
