When Arthur Dewitt Kirk was born on June 15, 1915, in Dogwood, Arkansas, his father, Earl, was 24 and his mother, Mona, was 22. He had four brothers and five sisters. He died on December 20, 1988, at the age of 73, and was buried in Beebe, Arkansas.
