Nathan Lawrence Dendy affectionately known as “Jackie received his summons from God on died Friday, August 19, 2016. He was born July 8, 1953 in Altheimer, AR the eldest child of Walter Dukes and Lois Dendy. His father preceded him in death as well as his grandparents.
Nathan grew up in the New Town Community under the guardianship of his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Elizabeth Dendy. He attended the Altheimer Public School and was a 1971 graduate of Altheimer High School.
After relocating to Hot Springs in the 1970's he had a thirty five year career with Weyerhaeuser Company before retiring. After his retirement he worked for Wal-Mart, Inc. and was presently with Wal-Mart #252. He was the owner of Nathans' Lawn Service.
Nathan married Vivian Davis and their wedding was the first wedding at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Their union was blessed with a son, Christopher Lawrence Dendy and he would be the first baby to be born in the church. On March 20, 2006 he married Janice Coleman and readily accepted her children and they respected him as their father.
Nathan's christian walk began at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Altheimer, AR. After moving to Hot Springs he would continue his christian journey by joining Gethsemane Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W. L. Robinson. He exhibited his faith by serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Financial President, Trustee, Choir, Sunday School and all around handy man. Rev. Robinson states the fact that, “he and Nathan never had a cross word or disagreement. He referred to Nathan as his go to man and the foot person. He was with him in the beginning and now with him in the end. Nathan was a humble and dedicated servant of the Lord.
He leaves a lasting impression in the heart of his wife of ten years, Janice Dendy of Hot Springs; his son, Christopher “Chris” Dendy of Las Vegas; his mother; Lois Dendy of Hot Springs, his extended children, Joshua Coleman, Denzel Lane, Chris Manning, Selena Meise and Andrea Williams all of Hot Springs; his sisters, Brenda (Melvin) McCray of Palestine, TX, Vanassa (Frank) Thompson, Priscilla Lewis and Judy Glover all of Hot Springs; his mother-in-law, Bernice Conway of Hot Springs; extended grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Gethsemane Baptist Church 120 Blake Street with Pastor W.L. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the church.
The family will be at 501 Wynn Street.
