The Roosevelt Cemetery is located five miles south of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, and 20 miles north of Judsonia, Arkansas, with a Judsonia address. It is adjacent to Roosevelt Missionary Baptist Church on State Highway 157 in White County in north central Arkansas. The Roosevelt Cemetery began to be a public burial ground in 1848. It was originally known as Bagley Cemetery but the name was changed to Roosevelt Cemetery when a U. S. Post Office was granted to the area in 1902 for the Roosevelt community.
This list was first prepared April 1, 1999, from information assembled by Mrs. Averil Beaver, a member at the time of the White County Historical Society who lived in the community. The Roosevelt Cemetery listing has subsequently been updated several times by Mrs. Beaver with the help of her son Harold Beaver. "Efforts were made to be as complete as possible," Mrs. Beaver noted, "however, there are many unmarked graves that will never be identified and many others that are only marked with natural stones bearing no information. It is a beautiful, well maintained country cemetery with many old and very large trees." Due to advancing years, declining health, and the need to be closer to family, Mrs. Beaver moved, in 2005, to Fort Smith, AR, where her son lives. Community members John and Janice Guinn began in 2006 providing information to assist in keeping the listing up to date. Mrs. Beaver said, "I have certainly enjoyed the community's support over the years in keeping the information current and will miss the regular contact with those whose loved ones are buried at the cemetery. It is, however, time that I turn these duties over to the next generation."
Leroy Blair, cemetery research director for the White County Historical Society, who visited here for the first time in March 2001, made adjustments to the list in 2007. Harold Beaver, with information provided by the Guinns, updated the list again on the date shown above. Mr. Blair also prepared the map key shown above and added Section and Row numbers to the list to aid in locating specific graves.
